Say what you want Scottie Pippen, but you know you wouldn’t have six rings on your fingers if it weren’t for Michael Jordan… There’s nobody out there that can say the same thing about LeBron James. Now that’s not to say that LeBron isn’t one of the best players in the league right now, but to say that he’s already better than Michael Jordan is blasphemy. Despite the fact that I think LeBron James is a giant douche, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s an incredible basketball player. You don’t have to be nice to be talented, but it’s always a little better when you have both… Derrick Rose… but that’s not what this is about, this is about Michael Jordan vs LeBron James, right now. Honestly, this isn’t even a fair comparison, the only way to make it fair is to wait until LeBron’s career is over and see what he’s done with it on and off the court. We all know that Jordan had his share of issues outside of the game, but for the most part his image never faltered which is hard to say about LeBron. He’s already made a media spectacle out of something that shouldn’t have been as dramatic as it was, although I lay partial blame on ESPN as well, and while the ratings for Heat games are high for this season, I think it’s mostly because of the hype surrounding the “big 3” and everyone outside of Miami hoping they fail, I don’t think it’s actually fans of LeBron wanting to see him succeed…

Ask anyone in the world who the most exciting basketball player to watch was, I guess this would be a little bias considering most of todays youth wasn’t around to witness the Jordan era, but I guarantee most people over the age of 25(or so) would say Michael Jordan, whether they were from Chicago or not. I don’t think right now if you asked the younger generation who the most exciting player to watch is, that the majority of them outside of Miami would say LeBron James. I don’t even think you’d get Cleveland fans telling you LeBron James anymore (this would have been a different story last year).

Skill wise do I think that there’s a chance LeBron James could put up better career numbers and stats, not to mention win more awards, than Michael Jordan… sure, there’s always a chance. I mean LeBron did reach his first NBA Finals game at age 26 where as Jordan didn’t reach it until 28, but do I think that the Miami Heat have the ability to win 6 Championships with LeBron…. honestly, no. But in the overall scheme of things, as a person, as a player, as a dominant force in the league, and as a sheer entertainer, nobody that currently plays in the NBA will be able to top Michael Jordan. And I know there have been comparisons of Derrick Rose to Michael Jordan, but I think that’s just wishful thinking by Chicago fans (me being one of them, but I don’t share in those views). D Rose is a great player, but he’s young and inexperienced. Do I think he’s a better player than LeBron James… I don’t know, he certainly has a better attitude which makes rooting for him a lot easier, but again it goes back to the same argument, both players are at different stages of their careers so I think it’s an unfair comparison however D Rose is better than LeBron was at 22, so we’ll just leave it at that.

So I think only time will tell in the great LeBron/Jordan debate and I know us Chicago fans are always going to be bias towards our hometown hero, but at the end of the day it may come down to the fact that LeBron is a better player on paper than Jordan, but it will never change the fact that Jordan changed the game forever and did it with an overall sense of class (for the most part). There were no huge press conference/hour long specials just to see where he was going to “take his talents to”, which was an embarrassment to the league if you ask me. So Mr. Pippen, to say that right now LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan was is a ridiculous statement that should never have been made. Sure he may have made it to the finals before Jordan did, but lets see if he can sustain that level of skill for his entire career…
