Lake Michigan Water Levels Are Pretty Low [Pics] Tom February 1, 2013 Random, True Life These are pictures of the Lloyd Boat Launch in Winnetka Illinois. The water levels in Lake Michigan have gotten so low that the boat launch is basically non-existent. I honestly had no clue that the water levels on the lake were becoming so low, but apparently it’s a huge problem for the boat traffic that comes through Chicago. I’m not sure how much commercial boat traffic flows through Lake Michigan, but if the water levels don’t come back up by the summer it’s going to make Lake Michigan a very quiet place for private boats. Which is quite unfortunate because when my dad retired a few years ago he bought a boat that we take out on the lake when it’s nice out. As you can tell from the pictures I’ve attached below of the Lloyd Boat Launch, it would be pretty impossible to launch any sort of boat from there. You can obviously tell that the water level used to be a lot higher, but in some of the photos you can see a white painted line around the edge… that’s where the water is normally. I really don’t have too much to say about all this, I just thought the pictures were pretty incredible, especially knowing where the water level was just last summer.
