Underground Hip-Hop Artist Eyedea – Dead at 28

City of Music: Eyedea and Friends – Part One from MPLS.TV on Vimeo.

Seems like just yesterday when I was sitting in my college dorm room watching Eyedea (Micheal Larson) destroy the competition at the 2001 Blaze Battle after which I proceeded to “acquire” every song I could featuring him. He was a staple on my iPod for years after that and even though I haven’t really listened to him much these days I still have a few tracks lingering around that I throw on every once in a while. So it’s with sad news that I report that just days before his 29th birthday, Eyedea has passed away. There are no details surrounding his death so let’s not jump to any conclusions. I suggest if you have a moment you go stroll around YouTube and check out some of his freestyles and videos, he was truly a talented man and will be missed.

Update: It has been confirmed that Eyedea died as a result of an accidental drug overdose. The actual drugs in his system have not been released since it is not public record, all that was noted is “opiate toxicity” as the cause of death.
