Crysis 2 Multiplayer Demo Impressions

Along with Bulletstorm, the Crysis 2 Multiplayer Demo hit the Xbox Marketplace yesterday morning and this one held my attention a little longer than Bulletstorm, but not much longer… This demo is just straight up team deathmatch. There’s no single player, there’s only one map, a handful of guns and an opposing team to kill. Again, after watching the multiplayer trailer for this one I was really excited. It almost looked like a cool mix between Halo and Call of Duty… until I played it, then it was more like Halo which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you’re into Halo… I’m not.

Like I said above, there’s only one level that you can play and it’s only team deathmatch. The map seemed pretty small as it took place on the rooftops of a few adjoining buildings with greenhouses and stuff, you could also enter the buildings, but it seemed as though most people stuck to the roofs. The graphics do look pretty, I’ll give it that, but like Halo and Gears, everything seems almost wet… I don’t know if it’s just to give it that science fiction-type feel or what, but it was a little distracting at times. The controls of the game were pretty good once I figured out a comfortable sensitivity setting. I’m not a big fan of Halo so some of the stuff like invisibility didn’t really fit with what I’m used to, but they were an interesting addition to the game that I’m sure will add to some variety in gameplay in the full version.

Overall I was pretty disappointed with this one too, just as I was Bulletstorm. I don’t know what it is exactly, but I think the fact that while I was playing it I just felt like I was playing Halo turned me off. I also was not a big fan of some of the animation, particularly when you jump and climb up onto a building. It was kind of cool the first time, but after a while I just started to annoy me. So if you’re a fan of the Halo series then you’ll probably enjoy this one as a nice change to what you’re used to, but still within your comfort level. If you’re a fan of the Call of Duty series I’m going to guess that you’ll get annoyed/bored with this one really fast. Hopefully the full game is a little better, but I found that I had a hard time finding the enemy team and once I did, they were all in one spot and would just kill me right away… I don’t know, maybe I was just really shitty at the game, but personally I can’t see myself picking this one up either.
