I know, the title is a little misleading, sorry… You won’t have to pay money to play Modern Warfare 3 online (outside of buying the game), but if you want some of the extra features that come with the “Call of Duty Elite” service, then you will.
Activision has announced that they will be launching “Call of Duty Elite” with the launch of Modern Warfare 3. Essentially this will be a monthly service that will give you access to new maps, stat tracking and [hopefully] more. They haven’t announced exactly what you will get with a subscription to “elite”, but they better offer more than just a cool way to track stats. They did say that the service will cost less than other services out there like Netflix, which is $7.99/mo, but even at $8 a month I will not be purchasing elite. I think the only way it might be worth it is if they release community maps or multiple new maps every month, but I sure as hell won’t pay any money for update stat tracking… I just don’t give a shit.
So I guess we’ll have to wait and see exactly what this service is going to include,
which I’m assuming they will announce at E3 next week. So I lied, it looks like they announced quite a bit of information this morning. Check it out in the video above.
