Most of the rumors have pointed at March 7th as the date for the iPad 3, but we can now put those rumors to rest… as it’s true. Apple has just sent out invitations to an event next Wednesday, March 7th, with the tagline “We have something you really have to see. And touch.”
The iPad 3 has been rumored to be slightly thicker than the iPad 2, but not as think as the original iPad. It’s said to have the beefed up retina display, as well as upgraded cameras. In terms of the processor and wireless radios… that’s where the rumors start. Some people are saying that it will have Apple’s Quad-Core A6 chip in it, although others are saying it will be a dual-core A5X. Along the same lines, some people are stating that the iPad will be able to had 4G and LTE… I’m not too sure about all this, but here’s one thing I did notice, the iPad pictured on the invite does not have a home button!
I know what you’re saying, “Nope, that iPad is just in landscape mode”. Well, the guys over at Gizmodo saw the same thing I did and did a little more investigating and determined that the iPad pictured is definitely in portrait mode, meaning there is no home button. Maybe they made the bezels on either side (while in portrait mode) touch sensitive for games and apps. I know I get annoyed a lot by having to use my fingers on the screen, cover valuable game space, in order to control things. Making the bezels touch sensitive would rid us of that problem… but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Apple has up their sleeves next Wednesday.
Oh, and yes, I will be purchasing one this time. We held off on the original iPad because it didn’t have a camera, then we held off on the iPad 2 because I didn’t see a use for it anymore with a perfectly good laptop, not to mention no retina screen which was rumored… but now, a better camera, retina screen, and I finally see the use in it due to the fact that my laptop is slowly dying… we will be purchasing one on launch day.
So what do you guys think Apple is going to show us on the iPad 3 next week? Are you going to be purchasing one?
