“Homeland” makes its triumphant return after winning six Emmy® Awards, including Outstanding Lead Actress for Claire Danes, Outstanding Lead Actor for Damian Lewis and Outstanding Drama Series. Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody (Lewis) is now a U.S. congressman, and former CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Danes) has returned to civilian life.  But when a new and potentially devastating terrorist threat emerges, Brody and Carrie’s lives become intertwined once again and they resume their delicate dance of suspicion, deceit and desire. Ever wondered how you would measure up to Carrie Mathison as a CIA agent? We took a look at the requirements needed to land a job with the world’s top- secret organization.

That time you chose a night out over studying for your midterm…could cost you.

The minimum requirement for all applicants is a college degree with a GPA of 3.0 or above. So not only does agent Carrie Mathison have subtle beauty, she clearly had the drive to earn an impressive college GPA.

Mid 30s are the cut-off age for the CIA

While it may be puzzling and seemingly unfair, there is an age requirement if you want to be a spy. Applicants must be under the age of 36 to be considered, so those mid-30s could possibly be a prime age for a career change.

She was an American Girl and (He, an American Boy)

It might seem intrusive for a future employer to tell you whom to marry but did you know one of the requirements is that your spouse (if applicable) must also be a US citizen.  This could potentially be a reason you see many CIA agents portrayed as single.

Brush up on your Japanese or Arabic, pronto!

While knowing a foreign language is not a mandatory requirement, it is a recommended and by that, they mean you should know it if you want any chance of being considered. The languages specifically mentioned are proficiency in Asian and Middle Eastern languages. So you may want to pay close attention to the scenes of dialogue.

So, you’ve made it into the CIA? Now lets see what your life would entail. We’re no experts but here are some of the experiences you may come across once you earn the title of a CIA operative.

Family Lifestyle

When asked about the nature of the job and how it pertains to having a family, several of the officers offered a surprising answer. Contrary to popular belief, their families are more involved than assumed, unless the assignment is a matter of national security and safety. There is a level of discretion that must be kept, with most of the officers admitting they cannot tell their spouses explicit details, however, their spouses are never kept entirely in the dark.

Learn to be a people person or portray yourself as one

A former operative once said 99 percent of the work of a CIA officer is to gather information aka ‘human intelligence’. You will spend majority of your time assessing and identifying sources that will potentially lend any tips and insight to your assignment. Not saying you need to be a chatty Kathy but you will definitely need to be perceptive and persuasive.
