This week we saw a long time cast member of “The Walking Dead” met his demise at the hands of a zombie… Is this the character you thought would be killed off already? Personally I thought he would stick around for a little bit longer, but the show is different the books, as those of us that have read the books know, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Ok, now that I’ve written enough to surpass what people on the main page of the site will see in the snippet, I can say that we’re talking about Dale. In last night’s episode, Dale had his guts brutally ripped out by a zombie as he went for a leisurely stroll through the brush by himself at night… That was probably his first mistake. I understand that he was upset that they were going to kill that kid and he wanted nothing to do with it, and I know a walker hasn’t made it’s way onto the farm in a while now, but he should have known better than to wander around by himself. Also, how did he not see that guy shambling around… there was nobody else out there and it’s not like zombies move quickly. I think the true blame should lie on Carl, but there’s no way he’s going to admit to what he did. He should have just manned up and shot that zombie in the face when he had the chance. I really thought that Shane was going to come up behind him and scare him, leading to Carl finally shooting Shane in the face like he did in the books.
That leads me into my next point. I think it’s pretty inevitable at this point that Shane is going to die. All of the rumors and leaks surrounding the show seem to point in that direction, and as I said before, he dies right away in the books. I do think the show did good by keeping Shane around for as long as they did to build that dynamic between him and Rick. We’ve slowly seen Rick fall deeper and deeper into the world they now live in and it only makes sense that Shane and him would start to butt heads even more. I’ve started to despise Shane over the course of this season and I think it will be a good thing to see him killed off and to see how that dramatically changes the dynamic of the group. Rick is going to need to grow some balls if he intends on taking on The Governor in the next season.
But back to Dale for a minute. Dale dies at the mouth of a zombie in the books, but he goes through a lot of other shit before he dies. If you haven’t read the books and don’t want to know what happens, you may want to skip the rest of this paragraph. Dale gets bit by a zombie, but doesn’t tell anyone. He knows what’s going to happen so one night he wanders off into the woods to die, but before he can he’s found by a group of cannibals that want nothing more than to eat him. Dale actually laughs at them as they are eating his legs, knowing full well that they are going to die and turn into zombies due to the fact that Dale was bit. I believe Dale’s legless body is then brought and left back at the campsite and Andrea eventually puts a bullet in his head after professing her love to him.
While it would have been cool to see Dale meet his demise like he did in the books, I think it was fitting that he was totally against another person dying and he’s the one that ended up going. He was the only person in the group that was still holding on to the world as it used to be, and now that he’s gone there’s going to be a whole lot of chaos between the group… and it’s going to be awesome. I’ve liked season 2 for the most part, I know the first half of the season was a little slow in the search for Sophia, but I think the 2nd half of the season has really ramped up and given us a lot to think about in terms of what’s going to happen to each person in the group. I really can’t wait for season 3 already, I really hope they make it to the prison and Micchone makes an appearance… Only 2 more episodes left of this season!
