I went to Lollapalooza for the first time last year (2011) and had a great time. There were tons of bands/artists I wanted to see; Eminem, Foo Fighters, etc. and the crowds weren’t quite as bad as I thought they were going to be. I could have done without the rain keeping me from seeing Foo Fighters, but I got over it. I kind of look at Lollapalooza as possibly a once in a lifetime type of thing, like skydiving. Now that I can say that I’ve done it I really have no desire to ever go back… However, under the right circumstances I could change my mind, but in this case I think I’m going to skip Lolla this year.
Red Hot Chili Peppers would be cool to see, but I’m not as big of a fan of theirs as I am of Foo Fighters, and while I like a couple of The Black Keys’ songs it’s not enough for me to want to spend the money to see them. I’ve seen Black Sabbath before and Jack White really doesn’t interest me so that just leaves the non-headliners and honestly the only one on that list that I really want to see is Childish Gambino and I feel like I can wait and see him in a smaller venue somewhere around Chicago when he makes his next pass through.
Lollapalooza is just too much for me. I’m not a huge fan of crowds, although, like I said, it wasn’t that bad, but for me to go stand out there for 3 days you better have at least 5-6 people I really want to see. Now there is a chance that I may buy a single day ticket just to check out Gambino, but those chances are extremely slim and depends on who else is playing that day, but for now Lollapalooza 2012 is a giant pass for me.
