Despite it’s flaws, I really enjoyed “The Collector” when it came out in 2009. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton have made quite the name for themselves in the horror genre after writing the majority of the later SAW flicks, so when I saw that they were writing/directing a new flick I was immediately drawn to it. For those that didn’t get a chance to see it, “The Collector” is not based off of the book of the same name, which is an amazing book by the way, but rather about an ex-con who desperately needs money to pay of a debt. Now sure, that doesn’t sound like that great of a horror flick, but when that ex-con breaks into a house to steal a diamond and finds the family that lives there tied up and tortured in the basement, with the crazy lunatic still in the house, it becomes a much better movie.
“The Collection” is the sequel to that movie. It sounds like it has a more of a “SAW 2” type feel to it (even though Dunstan and Melton didn’t come in until SAW 4), in that they are not searching out “The Collectors” booby-trapped warehouse in order to rescue a woman. So check out the synopsis below and the international poster above, and make sure to check it out in theaters on November 29th (in the US).
Arkin escapes with his life from the vicious grips of “The Collector” during an entrapment party where he adds beautiful Elena to his “Collection.” Instead of recovering from the trauma, Arkin is suddenly abducted from the hospital by mercenaries hired by Elena’s wealthy father. Arkin is blackmailed to team up with the mercenaries and track down The Collector’s booby trapped warehouse and save Elena.
