There was one point when I was all about the asian horror flicks, and so was the US, but it seems like after a couple “Grudge” movies and a terrible movie starring Joshua Jackson called “Shutter”, American’s fell out of love with asian horror. Next came the dawn of the cookie cutter horror remake which is one of the worst things to happen to Hollywood in it’s history… ugh. Thankfully though Takashi Shimizu is back with “7500“, another asian inspired horror film for US audiences.
I actually really liked the US remakes of movies like “The Ring” and “The Grudge”, but there is no comparison to the original. I remember buying the original “Ju-On” DVD’s (The Grudge) before the US version came out and being extremely creeped out. And that’s what I love about the asian horror flicks, they are all about the creepiness and not the cheap scare. “7500” appears to have a little bit of both mixed in so hopefully it’s not disappointing. There are quite a few recognizable faces in the cast; Jamie Chung looking gorgeous as always, Leslie Bib, a favorite of ours from The League, Ryan Kwanten, everyone’s favorite lady’s man from True Blood, Scout Taylor-Compton, from Rob Zombies “Halloween”, Amy Smart and of course, Turtle from Entourage. I’m actually glad to see Jerry Ferrara getting some work after Entourage, he always seemed like a genuinely nice guy.
Back to “7500”, I’m not entirely sure what the plot of the flick is, but it appears as though some sort of supernatural entity is terrorizing people on a plane headed to Japan. It looks pretty cool though. Check out the teaser trailer above and let us know what you think.
