Splinter just got a limited release this past weekend so if it’s playing in your area and you enjoy horror movies I would highly recommend checking it out. The movie starts off with a guy (played by that guy who smokes a lot of pot in Road Trip) and his girlfriend heading off to go camping for their anniversary weekend. He’s not to keen on the idea of sleeping outside, so when the tent pole snaps he’s happy to be heading to a motel for the night. On the way to the motel they find a girl and her boyfriend on the side of the road asking for help. When they slow down to see what they need it turns into a kidnapping. After a bit of car trouble the two couples end up at a gas station where they run into some sort of creature forcing them barricade themselves inside the gas station convenience store. And without giving away too much, that’s the jist of it.
I posted the trailer for this movie late in September (and again above) and couldn’t wait for it to come out so when I got the chance I jumped at it. The movie reminds me a lot of John Carpenter’s The Thing. You know, the one with Kurt Russell and a team of people in the Arctic and then a weird alien starts taking over people’s bodies. It’s one of my favorite movies which is probably why I liked Splinter so much. There’s plenty of gore for those of you that love the red stuff and overall it’s not a bad movie. The acting is pretty decent, the story moves along very quickly, there’s not a lot of downtime, etc. So basically, as I said before, if you love horror movies and this one is playing in a theater near you, I would definitely go check it out.
