Mini Movie Review: Boy Eats Girl

This movie has been in my netfilx queue for a long time and I kept pushing it further down the list, as I didn’t really want to see it, I honestly don’t even remember where I first heard about it and what made me want to see, but it came in the mail the other day and I had to check it out. The movie is about a guy who accidentally hangs himself after the girl he loves blows him off. Yeah, “accidentally” kills himself, as in he got hammered and put a noose around his neck (that he happened to have in his bedroom hanging from the ceiling), and when his mom walked in to turn the stereo down she knocked the chair he was standing on and it hung up. Not wanting everyone to think she was a bad mother she immediately ran and stole some old spell book from a churches crypt and brought her son back to life. But of course things couldn’t go that smoothly, apparently there were pages missing from the book and without those pages the re-animated person would basically be a zombie. Not your typical undead zombie, but the flesh would start to decay and he craves human flesh, and like zombies, if he bites anyone they then turn into a “real” zombie. That’s the basic overall premise of the movie….

It wasn’t horrible, I guess. There was some interesting humor throughout the movie and some decent death scenes, but the acting wasn’t the greatest and some of the plot didn’t really make sense. Not “sense” as in I didn’t understand it, but more like, couldn’t they have come up with a better way to re-animate the main character than a shady cult book in some random church crypt. I guess not. The movie itself is extremely short, only about an hour and 10 minutes, yet I still started to fall asleep towards the end, but I’m glad I didn’t. There is a scene at the end that crams so much blood and body parts into 2 minutes it would make Freddy Krueger retire (probably not, but there was still a shitload of death). So overall I can’t really recommend the movie if you’re not into stupid horror movies. While it wasn’t the worst movie I’ve seen, I probably won’t be buying this for repeat viewings.
