I was not ready for this trailer. Seven years after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Cliff Booth is back, and this time David Fincher’s behind the camera instead of Tarantino. Tarantino wrote it, Fincher directs it, Brad Pitt plays it. That’s about as stacked as a sequel gets, and the trailer plays like it knows it.

The Trailer

Watch it below. Pitt looks exactly as comfortable back in Cliff’s skin as you’d hope, older, slower on paper, still the most dangerous guy in every room he walks into.

What’s It About

The story picks up in 1977 Los Angeles, eight years after the events of the first movie. Cliff’s not stunt doubling anymore. He’s a studio fixer now, the guy Hollywood calls when a problem needs to quietly disappear. Timothy Olyphant is back too, and the new cast around Pitt is loaded: Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Holt McCallany. Tarantino has been careful to call this “an episode, not really a sequel,” which tracks with how the original film always felt more like a hangout movie with a body count than a straight narrative.

Leonardo DiCaprio is not in it. He said flat out that Fincher’s the right guy for this one, which is a classy way of passing the baton without making it weird. Smart move honestly. Rick Dalton doesn’t need to be dragged into every corner of this universe just because he can be.

You can read Variety’s full breakdown of the trailer for more on how Fincher’s approach differs from Tarantino’s original, and the Rotten Tomatoes page is already up if you want to track it as more comes out.

Release Date and Where to Watch

It’s an IMAX exclusive starting November 25, 2026, then it moves to Netflix on December 23. That IMAX window matters. Fincher shoots like a guy who wants his frames seen big, and a $200 million Tarantino script deserves the theater treatment before it becomes a Tuesday night watch on the couch.

I already wrote about how stacked this fall is for movies in general in my rundown of the movies I’m actually hyped for this September, and this one wasn’t even fully confirmed yet when I wrote it. It is now, and it just jumped to the top of my list for the rest of the year. Fincher and Tarantino sharing a movie is not a combination I expected to get in my lifetime, and I’m not taking it for granted.
