Well I am back again with a review this time of Shout Factory’s, in conglomeration with Marvel Knights Animation, Astonishing X-Men: Dangerous . I am not going to lie, I have not seen any of these installments, but I figured since I enjoyed the Transformers Prime, also released by Shout, I would give it a shot.
This series is created by the well known Joss Whedon, whom, as we all know, is in charge of the new Avengers movie, as well as some other well known movies and T.V. shows (Cabin in the Woods, Firefly, Buffy). He is accompanied by the highly award winning artist John Cassaday! So for you that are fan boys this is definitely something I would recommend. So the whole story behind this saga, and short saga I might add (69 minutes) is that there is a death at the Xavier institute for the Gifted of a student that attends there. This poses a threat to the students, being that this attack came from within and is a plot to destroy the X-men. The enemy they are against is like no other enemy they have ever encountered, knowing their strengths and weaknesses. All in all he wants the as dead as can be, and this will change the Xavier School for the gifted forever!
Over all this is definitely one for the fans of the series (X-men:Gifted) as well as fans of Whedon. Many will enjoy the transition of the motion comics, as many are too lazy to read and get a good visual. The voices help to get the story across. This DVD includes (6) motion comics and runs at a $14.97. The boxing of the DVD is not of the ordinary giving it a “comic-book” feel. There are not any special features on this DVD, which I thought would have been a nice addition, maybe giving the casual fans a background or even a look into the universe. I am kind of a new fan of the motion comics, seeing a few of The Walking Dead ones, so if you really enjoy that, check this out, though I think the price is a bit steep for 6 Motion Comics and 69 minutes of footage, and no special features, but overall it was not that bad!
